Isaiah Saunders gains yardage against Inderkum |
Tigers' coach Terry Starks then told kicker/quarterback C.J. Spencer to pooch the ball to the right and land around the Eagles' 35. White sprinted downfield and was the first man to the ball so Inderkum kept possession at the Pleasant Grove 30. Five plays later Eric Walters scored on a five-yard run and it was 20-0, Tigers.
Starks called for the same thing again and this time it worked, again. Spencer's pooch kick was recovered by Mark Mathews at the Eagles' 27-yardline. N.J. Falo bulled through the pile on a one-yard plunge five plays later and it was 28-0, Inderkum with a little under seven minutes remaining in the first half.
Four straight Tiger offensive possessions, four touchdowns and Pleasant Grove didn't touch the ball for a little more than eight minutes.
The Tigers led 34-6 at halftime and then held the ball for eight more minutes at the beginning of the fourth quarter to slow down an Eagle attempted comeback. Pleasant Grove got to within 34-21 heading into the final quarter, but could stop Inderkum's 15-play, 89-yard drive to open the final period.
Watch and listen to my post-game interview with Pleasant Grove head coach Joe Catollico.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 2-2 while Inderkum remained undefeated at 3-0.
