Former Elk Grove High School offensive linemen Kenny Wiggins and Matt Kopa were signed this weekend to their NFL clubs' practice squads. Meanwhile, former Laguna Creek wide receiver Jeremy Ross and ex-Franklin defensive back Brandyn Thompson were released by their teams.
Wiggins was signed to the 49er practice squad Saturday after spending his second training camp with San Francisco. Kopa, who was on the New England Patriots' practice team last season was inked to the squad again this weekend.
Ross, who was a part of the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad a year ago, was released this weekend by the NFL club and has not yet been picked up by anyone.
Thompson was a part of the Washington Redskins' 53-man roster and had limited playing time last season. He was released this weekend.
The only former EGUSD football player still on an NFL active roster is Chicago Bears' linebacker Lance Briggs, a seven-time Pro Bowler.
Ex-Pleasant Grove defensive lineman Armond Armstead is playing with Toronto in the Canadian League. He recently filed a lawsuit against his college, Southern Cal, for administering him dangerous pain killers that he allegedly claims cause him to have a heart attack.
